Applying the Method
Applying the Method
The Appvance method evaluates scalability, performance, and developer productivity across different implementation approaches for Internet application services. The methodology compares conventional application-stack implementations with native XML and data-processing technologies, focusing on both runtime performance and development efficiency.
Scalability and performance are evaluated from two primary perspectives:
- Binding and data-processing acceleration
Evaluates different approaches for processing XML-based data, including object binding, streaming parsers, DOM-based processing, and XQuery. The use cases compare execution performance, resource consumption, scalability, and developer productivity across the different approaches. - Mid-tier caching and service acceleration
Evaluates the impact of caching and data-storage strategies on service performance. The use cases compare native XML databases (XML DB) and relational databases (RDBMS) across different XML message sizes and database operations, including insert, update, delete, and query operations.
