Add Calibration Testing to the Performance Test Plan

Add calibration testing to the performance test plan before running large scalability tests. Calibration confirms that the script, data, environment, load model, monitoring, and result collection are ready for higher-volume execution.

Calibration goals

  • Validate that the scenario works reliably with a small user count.
  • Confirm test data, DPLs, accounts, and environment access are sufficient.
  • Measure baseline response times, errors, throughput, and resource use.
  • Identify bottlenecks in the test script, Test Nodes, network, or application under test.
  • Confirm monitoring, logs, reports, and dashboards capture the required evidence.

Planning checklist

  1. Run a single-user validation before adding concurrency.
  2. Increase load in controlled steps and review errors at each level.
  3. Separate application bottlenecks from load-generator or environment limits.
  4. Document calibration results and use them to refine the final test plan.
