Install the New Relic Java Agent for AIQ Monitoring
Last reviewed: September 21, 2026
Use this page when a Java application under test must be instrumented with the New Relic Java agent so AIQ performance results can be correlated with APM data.
Recommended guidance
- Use the current New Relic Java agent documentation for the supported agent version.
- Coordinate installation with the application owner before changing JVM startup options.
- Keep license keys and account credentials out of AIQ docs and screenshots.
Validation workflow
- Confirm the application server, Java version, and target New Relic account.
- Download the current Java agent from New Relic using an approved account.
- Install the agent on the application server and add the recommended javaagent JVM option.
- Set the application display name and environment tags consistently.
- Restart the application in a maintenance window, run a short AIQ test, and confirm New Relic receives data for the same time window.
Note: The previous article contained older Tomcat/New Relic version-specific screenshots. Treat those as obsolete and follow current New Relic guidance.
