Capture and Validate Tooltips in Scenario Editor

Last reviewed: September 29, 2026

Use this article when a Scenario Editor test needs to trigger, capture, and validate tooltip text.

What changed in this article

  • Replaced Test Designer wording with Scenario Editor terminology.
  • Added guidance to distinguish native title tooltips, ARIA/toolkit tooltips, and custom DOM tooltip components.
  • Added timing and hover/focus validation checks so flaky tooltip assertions are easier to diagnose.

Validation workflow

  1. Identify whether the tooltip appears on hover, focus, or click and whether it is native or custom HTML.
  2. Capture the tooltip text or attribute after the UI has displayed it.
  3. Replay the step with timing checks and confirm the assertion fails when expected text changes.

Review note: Modernized the tooltip workflow and added custom component handling for current web apps.
